With a few weeks off before the second round of the Geico Endurocross Series in Guthrie, Okla., I decided to head out to Glen Helen for the third round of their new Endurocross Series. Eight pros showed up for the event making it their greatest turn out to date. They decided to go with a three-moto format, which was great for us to get extra track time and Practice.
Hot Lap: 1.Cory Graffunder 1:03.7
2. Jamie Lanza 1:04.2
Moto 1: Holeshot, and led from start to finish, Graffunder finished second.
Moto 2: Holeshot, then Graffunder passed me and it looked to be a very close race until he made a mistake in the matrix section (very close telephone poles) and I passed him back taking the second moto win.
Moto 3: Third holeshot! Race was going picture perfect again, but I made a mistake and fell over in the rocks. I was pinned under my bike and got going in 4th. I just needed 2nd for the overall if Graffunder won and as I was making the pass for 3rd over the 5 foot concrete pipe when Jacob Argubright and I made contact and I went down again. I finished the moto in 4th.
My 4th place finish in the third moto placed me second overall for the evening. It was a great evening of racing and really nice to do an Endurocross race so close to home. The young series is growing and I hope more racers and spectators show up for the next race on August 21st.
