Moose Racing - On The Podium
05/24/10
Dubbed the Monte Carlo of the Enduro series, the Italian Acerbis Grand Prix is one of the most challenging and picturesque stops of the 2010 FIM World Enduro Championship. This stop is the third of eight, which featured a backdrop of the mountains of Lombardy and the prestigious Lovere.
David Knight has been on a roll the entire season and coming into the event was leading the points in the E3 class. Knight continued his streak of enduro podium appearances after battling to a third place finish in Saturday's first day of competition.
His third place finish did not sit well and Knight came out on day two and made a bold statement as he took home the win, finishing more than nine seconds ahead of his closest competitor.
"It's certainly one of the hardest races I've done," said Knight. "I really gave it everything in the last Enduro test, pushing myself to the limit. It's a special feeling for me to win here in the Valley of Bergamo, in the Enduro World series stronghold. The atmosphere here is similar to the one that I am familiar with at the Isle of Man TT. I'm really pleased to secure this victory for all of the Fabio Farioli team. "
The win keeps Knight at the top of the overall standings with a six-point advantage. The fourth round of the series will take place in Poland on June 12 - 13, 2010.
Stateside, the Can-Am GNCC Series took place in Somerset, Pa. with the Moose Mountain Ridge GNCC. Known for its slippery rocks and hillsides, the Somerset course was made even more challenging when showers fell early in the weekend.
Privateer KTM and Moose Racing rider, Jesse Robinson, rode up front all day in the XC2 class before crossing the line in the third position. This is Robinson's third consecutive third place finish and he sits comfortably in third place overall.
After getting a strong start and battling the tortuous course for three hours, series points leader, Josh Strang did not get the finish he was looking for but thanks to his four previous wins, he still leads the series.
"The track looked good and I was looking forward to riding it," said Strang. "I got a good start, and I rode pretty good for a lap and a half, but I went down at the start of the second lap and things just started going downhill from there. I probably crashed every lap after that."
The series takes a one-week break for Memorial Day before coming back at the Wiseco John Penton GNCC in Millfield, Ohio on June 5 - 6, 2010.
